Industry; the driving force of the town

It is undeniable that the economy of Zumaia, and, therefore that, of its inhabitants, is currently closely linked to the industrial sector, but it was also largely in the past.

Even though Zumaia is a coastal town, the fishing activity has not reached the importance that it has  in other coastal towns. But, on the other hand, some of the main industrial initiatives carried out in the town during its industrialization process, have been linked to the sea, such as shipbuilding or the manufacture of marine engines.

In order to value all this heritage, the ZIIZ association and the City Council have collaborated in the creation of interpretive panels of different relevant industrial activities of Zumaia's history. In the image here below we show their location.
