Welcome to the country of Euskera!
Euskara is one of our most important heritages. If you want to discover the Basque country, you do have to know something about our language. Euskara has a special value for Basque people and locals; is part of our identity, our culture and our history.
It is one of the oldest living languages in the world, but its origins are nowadays a mystery. Any way you can learn something about it and Zumaia is one of the best places to do it.
Here you have some tips:
- Obtain the small dictionary we offer at the tourism offices of Urola Kosta area.
- Experience our culture traditions and our language through the interesting guided tour “The enigma of Basque language” and discover some curiosities (check www.geoparkea.eus for schedule and reservations – Available in Spanish or Basque).
- Try to make a few words in Basque language when you speak with local people. We’ll be grateful!
